CONDITIONS WE HELP EVALUATE

The body part is where we start. The evaluation tells us what's wrong.

PeakMD focuses on persistent joint and tendon pain in active adults. "Knee pain" or "Achilles pain" tells Dr. Matthewson where to look. It doesn't tell him what's driving the problem. Every condition we treat starts with the same evaluation: your history, exam, imaging, and goals, reviewed together before anything is recommended.

WHERE WE FOCUS

Knee and tendon pain that hasn't gone away.

These are the conditions PeakMD treats most often. Each page explains what may be driving the pain, who may be a candidate, and what the program involves.

Knee Pain & Arthritis

Persistent knee pain, arthritis at any stage, and "bone-on-bone" diagnoses. Understand what's driving your pain and what your realistic options are before deciding on surgery.

Persistent Tendon Pain

Achilles, patellar, elbow and rotator cuff pain that hasn't responded to rest, stretching or standard rehab. Built for runners, lifters, climbers, and court and overhead athletes.

WHAT WE EVALUATE

Persistent pain usually has more than one cause.

Whatever the body part, Dr. Matthewson may assess six factors that can keep pain going:

  1. Tissue damage or incomplete healing
  2. Joint degeneration and bone health
  3. Instability, alignment or movement mechanics
  4. Nerve irritation, referred pain or pain-system sensitivity
  5. Chronic inflammation or an irritated tissue environment
  6. Biology and recovery capacity

They often show up together, and each one points to a different part of the plan.

OTHER CONCERNS

Hip, shoulder or a sports injury?

Hip arthritis is treated through the Joint Preservation Plan. Shoulder pain and other sports or soft-tissue injuries are evaluated case by case. Dr. Matthewson is a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon who treats the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle, so he can tell you whether a PeakMD program fits or another path makes more sense. Describe your concern in the intake questionnaire.
